Pensacola, FL-based songwriter and entertainer Matt Powell, known by his stage moniker Qwiet Type, has been blowing up streaming platforms with a unique mix of indie rock and beat-driven electropop that teems with positive energy. Inspired by a broad range of genres, his pure vocals are reminiscent of pop icon Phil Collins, stretching relaxed, euphoric melodies across compelling percussion. Qwiet Type’s tracks blend the mass appeal of enduring pop-rock groups like Maroon 5 and The Police with the anything-goes spirit of eclectic indie groups like Ambulance LTD and Kings of Convenience. Through dynamic arrangements and optimistic lyrics, Qwiet Type urges listeners to ride out the bad times until the good times return.

A drummer since early childhood, Qwiet Type picked up other instruments by ear, eventually forming successful alt-rock band Elliptical and later founding several Atlanta-based entertainment and music companies. In 2019, he returned to his first love—making music—and teamed up with producer Taylor Franklyn to release a set of well-received singles that quickly gained traction across multiple streaming platforms. The pair continued to collaborate closely, writing and producing from Franklyn’s home studio and travelling to record with session musicians in Nashville. In 2020, when pandemic precautions halted planning for his breakout performance, Qwiet Type went on with the show, filming a full-length live concert sans audience and releasing one song at a time via YouTube.
